DIY Engagement Ring Cleaning
A newly cleaned and ultra-shiny engagement ring a must for engagement session and wedding.
Many jewelers provide free ring cleanings with the purchase of their rings, but if you bought your ring from a store that doesn't have convenient locations near you, it can cost $25-$50 to get a ring cleaned professionally.
My experience with jewelry, provides some simple quick fixes!
My mom worked at a jewelry store in college, so she had more than your average interaction with beautiful rings and how to take care of them.
First Trick: Windex
It is a super simple solution but works like a charm. Windex is normally used to make glass windows shine, but it also does the trick perfectly with your ring. The best part is, you probably having it in your house already.
So here’s what you do:
Create a solution that is one part Windex and one part water in a glass cup.
Set the ring in it and turn a timer on for 20 minutes.
If it has been a while, you can also take an old toothbrush and gently scrub it to remove any extra grime.
WARNING: Don't use ammonia-based cleannig solutions (aka windex) to antique jewelry or soft stones like opals, pearls or turquoise. I have included some additional cleaning options if your ring falls under this category.
Second DIY Option: Jewel Brite
This pink jewelry cleaner kit is safe for antique jewelry, pearls and soft, porous stones. It even comes with a tarnish remover and polish.
For diamonds, just drop it in the little container, let it soak for 5-10 minutes to break down built-up residue, use the little brush inside or a soft-bristled toothbrush to gently scrub away any leftover dirt, rinse with cold water, and let it dry!
For soft stones, dip, gently scrub around the ring, avoiding the stone, rinse, and dry.
Last Option: Ultrasonic Cleaner
